Heavy-Duty & Semi-Truck Air Brake Chamber Replacement Guide

Have a brake chamber number but not a complete product label? Start with the cross-reference number, then confirm the chamber type, stroke, pushrod, mounting pattern, ports, and clevis before ordering. Brake chambers can look nearly identical while using different installation dimensions.

Common brake chamber cross-references

The table below lists common part numbers currently associated with GBK brake chamber products. These numbers identify possible replacement options; they do not replace a complete fitment check.

Service chamber or spring brake?

A service chamber uses air pressure for normal braking. A spring brake chamber combines a service section with a mechanical parking and emergency section. A number such as 30/30 describes the two chamber sections, but it does not identify every mounting and pushrod detail.

What must match before installation

  • Chamber type and size: Type 20, Type 24, Type 30, or Type 30/30
  • Stroke: standard stroke or long stroke
  • Pushrod: overall length, threaded length, thread size, and required cut length
  • Mounting: stud spacing, stud threads, and installation angle
  • Air ports: size, shape, orientation, and clearance
  • Clevis: detachable, welded, included, or reused from the original installation
  • Spring-brake details: sealed construction, caging bolt, and parking-side clearance

Do not select a chamber using only the type number. Two Type 30 or Type 30/30 chambers may differ in stroke, pushrod, ports, or mounting.

How to search a worn or partial part number

  1. Search the complete number exactly as printed.
  2. Try the number without spaces, hyphens, or punctuation.
  3. Confirm whether the original component is a service chamber or a spring brake.
  4. Measure the stroke, pushrod, mounting-stud spacing, and port arrangement.
  5. Compare those measurements with the GBK product specifications before ordering.

Browse GBK brake chambers, or use the Bendix, Haldex, Meritor, MGM, and Automann cross-reference pages.

Contact a GBK parts specialist when the label is damaged or the pushrod and mounting configuration cannot be confirmed.

Cross-reference numbers identify possible compatible replacement options. Buyers and installers must verify the complete specifications and application before installation. Spring brake chambers contain a powerful mechanical spring and must be handled using the correct service procedure.
